Netflix’s US CatalogueThe Online Movies and TV Series streaming provider, Netflix recorded decrease in the content catalogue. The US list of Netflix has reduced by almost 33% in movies and 26% in TV Series. This report was published after a survey from Allflicks and Quartz. The International Netflix users, who are disappointed in the local version and content offered by Netflix, are often fascinated by the content catalogue of US Netflix.

For the subscribers based in the US, Netflix provides them access to the 4,330 Movies and 1,200 TV serials. The number is much higher for US subscribers than other countries. In the UK, Netflix users get access to almost 3,000 films and TV series, Australian customers, get access to 2,000 movies and TV series. Two years ago, Netflix US had approximately 6,500 movies and 1,600 TV shows in its catalogue.

The decrease in content mainly happens because of the licensing rights. The two competitors of Netflix, i.e., Hulu and Amazon has taken all rights for some TV shows and Movies, which makes it impossible to watch it on Netflix. Also, Netflix is removing the content, which is not being viewed by anyone. Most of the removed material are made before 2010. Also, the Netflix is making its original content, in which they’ve spent almost 5 billion dollars. The main reason is to avoid fighting for the content rights and focus on producing the quality content for subscribers.

Sylvester Stallone Finally Gets Another Golden Globe Nomination, For Creed

sylvester-stalloneHe may be one of the most memorable faces—and voices—in Hollywood but while his resume is filled with one iconic role after another Sylvester Stallone has not been “critically” recognized that often for his talent. So when Stallone received his Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe nomination, on Thursday, for his role in Creed, it was a bit of a shock to him.

It was only quite an incredible honor. You see, the only other time Sylvester Stallone was nominated for a Golden Globe (as well as an Oscar) was for his lead role in the film he wrote, Rocky.

Released in 1976, Rocky tells the story of an underdog plucked from obscurity to defy the odds and become a champion. Perhaps inspired by the real life story of Chuck Wepner, the tale of Rocky mirrors that of Stallone’s own climb to the top of the industry.

Born with a defect that caused his speech impediment, Sylvester Stallone did not have it easy as an actor trying to break big into the movie industry. But at 30-years old he did not let anything deter him and, after selling everything he owned—including his dog—the man lived on passion alone.

This passion finally paid off in the form of “Rocky,” one of the most successful Best Picture Winners of all time. The film also won for Best Director and Best Editing; Stallone was nominated for Best Actor (and Best Original Screenplay).

It has taken 39 years for Stallone to release 5 more Rocky films. While none were as critically received as the first, all have been widely successful.

Creed is the first “spin-off” film but, more importantly, is the first to find Stallone again nominated for a much deserved award, which recognizes not only his tremendous work in this film, but perhaps paying homage, a bit, to his entire body of work.

The Mysterious, Surprising, Confusion In the Academy Awards Season

Academy-Awards-StatuesThis week, both the SAG Award nominees and the Golden Globe award nominations have been announced. It is an exciting time in the film and television industry, of course, as many will now get to see how their hard work might have paid off in terms of fame and notoriety and not just a paycheck.

But while these nominations are exciting, of course, it is important not to overlook that both of these award shows overshadow the Academy Awards (also known as the Oscars) which will broadcast on Feb 28 of 2016. The reason you have to keep all three in perspective is that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences seem to change their minds—in terms of votes—between the Globes, the SAG Awards, and the Oscars.

It is not easy to categorize “winning” films, necessarily, because each of these award shows offer prizes in different categories, some of which might only exist in one award group. Also, it is difficult for the outsider—the casual viewer—to understand how voting works since each of the three Awards are provided by very different organizations.

As far as the Oscars go, for example, there are actually three distinct groups.

First, we have the early voting organizations. These are, basically, overseers who narrow the field.

Second, we have the pundits and bloggers.

While they don’t “necessarily” have a say in who gets nominated and who wins, their opinions (and the media push behind them, if they are big enough) can actually influence the voting organizations as well as the third group: the Academy voters.

Steven Spielberg, Disney To Bring Dahl Classic “The BFG” to the Big Screen

Steven SpielbergBorn in Wales, in September of 1916, Roald Dahl probably never dreamed that the books he would write would touch the hearts and imaginations of both children and adults alike a century later. And while his work certainly received praise during his lifetime, one of the world’s greatest storytellers continues to be celebrated today.

You may know Dahl from works such as “James and the Giant Peach” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” (as well as its sequel, “Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator”). He also less-oft remembered—but equally beloved—books like “Danny, the Champion of the World,” “The Enormous Crocodile,” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox.”

But there is another story that many people remember and have been waiting for it to receive the big screen treatment; and the wait is over.

Steven Spielberg has signed on, working with Disney, to bring “The BFG” to life on the silver screen. Yes, the somber and emotional journey of The Big Friendly Giant will be in theatres soon.

“I think it was kind of genius of Roald Dahl to be able to empower the children,” Spielberg comments. “It was very, very, very brave of him to introduce that combination of darkness and light which was so much Disney’s original signature in a lot of earlier works like Dumbo, Fantasia, Snow White, and Cinderella, and being able to do scary, but also be redemptive at the same time and teach a lesson, and enduring lesson, to everyone. It was a wonderful thing for Dahl to have done and it was one of the things that attracted me to want to direct this Dahl book.”

He goes on to say, “It’s story about friendship, it’s story about loyalty and protecting your friends and it’s a story that shows that even a little girl can help a big giant solve his biggest problems.”
