If you still use feature phones and think that it will not provide any cutting edge performance or you cannot flaunt it due to its appearance, then think again. Like Nokia which gave its Nokia 3310 a new look, it seems that company is also trying to re-design its feature phones, but for rising markets.
Qualcomm 205 Platform
During an event, which took place in Delhi, the company revealed its latest platform Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform.
Since past three years, this is the first time when the company is updating its entry-level mobile platform. The company is doing this by bringing 4G services to its phones along with LTE connectivity.
The Qualcomm 205 chip is basically developed for the feature phones, which are very popular in emerging markets such as Latin America, Southeast Asia, and India. The reports say that the chip is developed in India by considering the “Make in India” initiative from the government.
Although these chips won’t be as advanced as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets, it will provide LTE connectivity and 4G services for feature phones.
Features that company will bring
Qualcomm says that the platform is basically designed to bring 4G connectivity to its feature phones. The chipset is equipped with an X5 Category 4 LTE modem, which provides 150 Mbps download speed and 50 Mbps upload speed.
The platform also includes Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 720p video streaming at 30fps, and VoWIFI. In addition to this, the chipset comes with an ISP that supports a 3-megapixel rear camera and a 480p VGA front camera.
Qualcomm flaunts its long battery life for the feature phones. The company claims that phones based on the Qualcomm 205 SoC will offer a standby time of 45 days, talk time of 20 hours, and 86 hours of music playback.
Qualcomm has tied knots with the OEMs/ODMs like Uniscope, Flex, Borqs, Reliance Jio, FIH/Megaphone, TCL, Micromax, and more.
The company says that it is taking such steps to help people who stay in rural areas, where there is a shortage of electricity.
Qualcomm says that the chip is already been developed but it will reach the market by the second half of 2017.
