The Red Cross Bunbury Donor Centre in Rockingham is convincing people to donate blood during the Easter holiday period. The center needs extra 80 people to donate blood and boost up supplies for patients who are in need. Blood service is searching for more donors to keep blood fresh and flowing throughout the long break. Centre manager, Sue McKenzie said they are collecting blood but still people need to sign-up and donate blood before the Easter holiday.
Spokesperson Jessica Willet said, “Around Easter, many regular blood donors are away, which means blood supplies can dip if we don’t have enough good eggs to fill the gap.” One blood product or a blood platelet lasts only for five days, so continuous supply of blood is necessary and hence we need more donors. We need to over collect the blood before and after Easter day as the need for blood and plasma never ends. People need to donate their blood between April 10 to April 21 to increase the amount of blood supply.
“Around Easter, many regular blood donors are away, which means blood supplies can dip if we don’t have enough good eggs to fill the gap,” Ms. Willet said. “One out of three people are in need of blood once in their lifetime. But the ratio is very poor. Only one in 30 donates the blood.” “Your lifesaving blood donation would be helpful for someone who is in need and they could happily spend another holiday with family and friends, and all it costs is an hour of time”, she further added.
