Usain Bolt took his tally of Olympic Gold medals to seven after he literally waltzed through the 100 meter finals, beating his American rival Justin Gatlin by a stunning 25 meter. Bolt recorded a time of 9.81 seconds- nothing special by his standards- but at this stage of his career, Bolt would be sensible enough to rack up more medals than trying to beat his own records. Going by his current form, it would be a safe bet to expect nothing short of Gold from Bolt in the 200m and 4x100m relay, to be played later in the week. American sprinter Justin Gatlin secured a Silver medal, with a time of 9.89 seconds, while Canadian Andre de Grasse claimed a Bronze with a time of 9.91 seconds. This was actually Bolt's slowest winning time of his career, a long shot from his Olympic record of 9.63 seconds set in London in 2012. Bolt has also been showing signs of slowing down, with a time of 9.77 in Moscow in 2013, and 9.79 in Beijing last year. Bolt, while dwindling in his twilight years as he moves closer to retirement next year, is still a long way ahead of his contemporary sprinters, leading many to question jokingly on social media whether he is an alien, or maybe a real life version of Barry Allen. “I’m really happy but I expected to go faster,” Bolt said after the race. “With the turnaround time between the semi-final and final we normally have two hours, but we had one hour 20 minutes, it was challenging. But I’m just happy that I won and that’s the key thing.” Bolt still remains a fan favorite, and the crowd cheered him no holds barred, appreciating his every move.
